Iceland named the first supermarket to go 'plastic-free' for own brand products in an annoucement released today.

With plastic waste being very topical at the moment, it's great to hear that a big supermarket like Iceland has taken a stand.

This is going to be a big project for Iceland but a worthwhile one. Not only for their business profile and the environment, but also for their customers who are starting to be more choosy where they shop.  A survey for Iceland revealed overwhelming public support for a shift away from plastic by retailers, with 80% of 5,000 people polled saying they would endorse a supermarket's move to go plastic-free.

Iceland have committed to make this change by 2023.
