Burro e Salvia has brought one of Italy's most traditional artisanal trades, the Pastificio, to London. With a passion for design and sustainability, Founder Gaia Enria approached eco-friendly packaging specialist Biopac to produce a sustainable bespoke solution for their packaging.

Gaia Enria, Founder of Burro e Salvia said, "We make pasta for our customers to buy and take home. We needed a solution that would be stylish and functional at the same time, and strong enough to protect our handmade pasta during a long commute home."

The boxes, manufactured and printed by Biopac, are constructed from a high quality corrugated board made from pure wood pulp that is produced from sustainable forests in Europe. Functional and sustainable, they can be fully composted when they've reached their end of life, so very kind to the environment.

Mark Brigden, Technical Director at Biopac, said: "This brief was right up our street. We enjoy working with artisan food producers like Gaia and translating their requirements into a bespoke packaging solution that is stylish, functional and sustainable."

Mark continued, "We needed to use a high quality board to make maximum use of Gaia's branding so this could be well defined on the box."

"We are delighted that we can now use packaging
that is not only sustainable but also reusable."

Gaia added, "Customers love the box so much they often come back with the same box to be refilled with new pasta."

Commenting on sustainability Gaia said, "We try to use local products where possible, for example we are proud to be using only British Eggs by Clarence Court. Quality and traceability of ingredients is key for us. We are delighted that we can now use packaging that is not only sustainable but also reusable."

Burro e Salvia is based in Shoreditch, with a second store due to open in East Dulwich just before Christmas.
